MrsB 8/3PM

It’s late but I just got in from the afternoon practice, grabbing a bite at Five Guys with my son, and playing with my furry girls for a bit in the yard.  Camp this afternoon started off cloudy and windy and I wasn’t sure if it was going to rain but alas, it turned out to  actually be a beautiful summer afternoon.

I only have a few minutes  and not much to say so here’s what I remember.

* The dancing machine, Patrick Chung,  was not dressed (but worked with trainers) so Devin McCourty saw a lot of action in his spot this afternoon.

* Most of the Brady Birthday Brigade must have been in the stands during the AM session as it was relatively quiet this afternoon.

*During 1:1 drills, Darius Butler successfully defended against Moss and threw him off course during his route (rare but true.)  Edelman made a terrific catch beating out Meriweather.

* There was a lot of time spent on situational and red zone work  with the focus on 7:7 and 11:11 group periods.

*Hernandez pours it on 100% on every play… He continually is getting vertical to haul in his passes.  He almost pulled in an overthrown pass, jumping in the air, getting his fingertips on it, before crashing to the ground. He did connect on many including scoring a TD during red zone work, resulting in Brady congratulating him after the play.

*Kyle Arrington got an INT after coming up with a deflected ball thrown by Hoyer to Price.

*Brandon Spikes deflected a Zac Robinson pass. Mccourty and Meriweather had some deflections as well.

*Gostkowki hit a half dozen or so  field goals, delighting the fans on the hill,  as usual.

*Practice ended with the vets running yardage line sprints while the backups did more full squad work.

I’m not sure who signed as I headed out to beat the crowd… Also, I don’t know what’s up for me tomorrow so I’ll play it by ear.

Here’s a link to some pictures that Big Al took over the past few days. (I don’t do photos as I stay at the top of the hill.)

8/3AM changed to walkthru

Thanks to an early @realpatiots tweet, I’m saving my gas and time and skipping this morning’s session which has been changed to a 10:00-11:20 AM walkthru.  I’ll be out there for the regular 3:45 pm session. Hope you find out in enough time if it makes the difference in your plans today.

MrsB 8/2 AM

Bad, bad, MrsB!  Left for camp excited to be meeting up with good buddies Randy “Zip” Pierce,  soon-to-be-bride Tracy,  and of course The Mighty Quinn,  and failed to put in contacts or bring paper and pencil.  Turns out it was a no-hitting practice anyway, so I ended up shooting the breeze and catching up..  Time well spent, IMO. :-)

Anyway, here’s what I got:

* It was rookie slip-n-slide day as I assumed and tweeted early on when I saw them hosing down the back corner of the field.  Rookies dive after loose footballs in the mud and are hosed down while doing so. It’s hard to see specifics with all of the players gathered around but someone at the end shot the hose into the air and it seemed that all got a little cooling off.

*Newbie Pats on the field today were WR Rod Owens wearing #15 and TE Carson Butler #86.

*Hernandez is standing out and made some nice diving catches today, one in which he was slow getting up, and then  just missing an outstanding one in which he leapt into the air with Arrington in tight but dropped the ball  when he crashed to the ground.

*Neal and Thomas Williams were back on the field today.

*First unit defense during 7:7 Spikes, Mayo, TBC, McCourty, Bodden, Meriweather & Chung.

*Torry Holt saw a lot of action today. Caught one sliding to the ground and split Butler and Chung on coverage on another.

*Wheatley picked off Robinson. Later he threw a bomb to Rod Owens but it was broken up by Ventrone and Wheatley.

There were no 11:11 drills today nor FG scrambles on the hill.

*Running backs signed as did His Hoodie-ness Bill Belichick, and Julian Edelman who spent the most time appeasing the crowd.

Random Stuff:

* ST coach OBrien was instructing one of BB’s sons on how to long snap and was demonstrating for him.

* Mr. Kraft took in practice from the sidelines.  Brady went over to him after practice, they spoke for a bit and shook hands before 12 headed in.

* When the field was almost clear, Robinson came running out to retrieve Brady’s helmet and pads which were left on the grass.

Tonight is the season ticket holder practice inside Gillette Stadium. I was planning on attending but opted out because I have way too much to do at the homestead… (Real Life doesn’t stop just because TC is in session.. LOL!)

MrsB 8/1PM

Home from another chilly afternoon practice. (I’ve only worn a sweater twice all summer and it was for the last two afternoon practices.)  The place was packed as expected for a weekend session.

Here’s the scoop from this afternoon’s session:

*Chung was groovin to the beat prior to practice and Brady just  happened to be coming on to the field as “I’m Too Sexy” was playing. Later, Chung was bustin out some Irish Step moves.. LOL

* Rob Ninkovich practiced some long snapping.

*During drills BB’s son was throwing the passes to the DBs.

*Early on, Offense and Defense players were partnered up and were traveling along the yardage markers trying to bat the ball out of their partner’s hand. Crumpler and Mayo each knocked it out of each other’s hands during their trip.

*The Smurf Brigade Revisited  (Welker, Edelman, Jenkins) and Price, Tate, Moss really got the crowd into it while running patterns, with most of the passes resulting in completions. Edit: Forgot to mention Welker’s turn at playing to the crowd tonight, raising his arms up for applause during aforementioned drill.  Naturally, the crowd complied. My 54 was famous for that one.

* During the 1:1 period, there were some WR going long on one end of the field and some shorter yardage stuff on the other end.. at times it seemed that the two groups could collide.  Gronkowski and Jenkins both made notable catches.

* In the opposite field, QBs were throwing passes at a trash can about 40 yards away. I saw Brady and Hoyer each hit the can (not in the can) but not Robinson.

* Gerard Warren (68) took a lap.

* Guyton slipped in coverage, came up limping, was able to walk but went to sideline with trainers and then left the field with them.

* Edelman, Tate and Farnham returned kicks.

*During full squad work, Brady hit Moss but then 81 gave Jenkins a thumbs up and high five on the sideline, presumably for his route running,  drawing the defenders to his side.

*Brady missed Crumpler down the middle as Crumpler and Meriweather collided. Brandon did a few push-ups before getting up. The crowd got a bang out of that.

*Aaron Hernandez just keeps on making plays.. fast, intense and all around good stuff.. He’s a Keeper!

Post Practice Tid Bits:

*Linebackers signed today as did Welker who got a HUGE cheer.

* Scar went over to sign as well.

* BB ran his sprints again.

* Torry Holt’s son (looked about 8 yrs old or so) was going out for Dad’s passes and has some good hands!  They were playing with a nerf football after practice and Torry would tell him the route to run and he did, cutting and turning just in time to haul it in.. Rookie class of 2024 perhaps??

From the “you haven’t lived until you.. ” file:  Big Al and I got a bang out of a young boy in the parking lot, presumably emerging from his inaugural visit to a Handy House.. The look on his face as he exclaimed “Dad, it REALLY stinks in there!” was priceless…   LOL

Edit: I keep forgetting to mention the latest ditties from the “Chillin like Corey Dillon” hawker… He’s come over to say hi to me a couple of times since he’s seen me at camp for years but here are a couple of  his new ones:

“Frozen Lemonade Here:  No baloney.. have you runnin like Laurence Maroney!”

“Giant Freeze Pops Here: Red or Blue, Just for you! Good in any weather just like Brandon Meriweather.”

MrsB 8/1AM

Another gorgeous morning at camp.  As you know, Welker was removed from PUP and participated in practice this AM, much to the delight of the crowd. I’ve got lots to do in my garden between sessions so here’s the Cliff Notes version of tidbits.

*From the creatures of habit file: Zoltan continues to be the first on the scene in the morning. Chung leads the sprints, and during WR drills, Randy goes first, followed by Welker, the rest of the pack and Holt goes last.

*Edelman recovered from yesterday’s dropsies and had some great hands today.

*When Welker or Moss touch the ball, the crowd erupts.

* Edelman, Faulk and Tate were fielding punts. According to Big Al, hang time was usually 4-5-4.6 seconds.

* Brady and Welker spent some time working together in the other field and Welker was cutting and moving fast. He missed one and being the perfectionist that he is, was pissed at himself, let out a yell and booted the ball in disgust. Brady complimented him for a job well done (minus one miss) when they were through.

*Rob Gronkowski (87) took two laps this morning, one with Matt Light.

*Hernandez is looking sharp and saw a lot of action today.

* During full squad work, some highlights were a Fred Taylor TD in lots of traffic, a Randy Moss Leaning Tower of Pisa catch on the sidelines where he reached well out of bounds to make the grab but kept his feet in, and a nice defensive play by Mayo preventing a Brady to Crumpler TD.

* I tweeted  earlier ( about Randy’s playing up to the crowd when he tossed a ball to a youngster in the stands so that he could pass it to him (after a security guard came up short on his toss).  The crowd went wild and the kid now has his claim to fame story to tell his grandchildren someday :-)

* DBs signed today but Randy made the rounds again, even staying past the horn.  Our friends’ little guy was able to get his Moss jersey autographed which was awesome. The toddler had been looking out for Randy Moss since he arrived on the hill in the morning. :-)

**BB ran sprints after practice, getting his workout in on the field once again.

Heading out for PM practice but have lots to do around here so no promises for a report.
